Rizhao enjoys excellent economy and investment environment. It is named after a sentence of an old poem depicting the place enjoying the first sunshine of dawn. The city is situated to the middle coastline of China, south of Shandong Peninsular, bordering on the Yellow Sea in the east ,Qingdao, Weifang in the north ,Lianyungang of Jiangsu Province in the south and Linyi in the west ,with an area of 5310  square km and a total population of 2.76 million.

With the advantages of location and transportation,  Rizhao is the Oriental Bridgehead of the Eurasia Continental Bridge. There are two top national class open trade ports---Rizhao Port and Lanshan Port, between which Rizhao Port is one of the 10 largest coastal ports in China, Lanshan Port has the biggest 50,000t liquid chemical wharf north of the Changjiang River. The total handing capacity is 40 million tons in 2003. It enjoys very convenient railway and expressway transportation. There are Yanshi, Lanping railways, Rizhu ,Tongsan expressways,204# high grade national road, which mean one hour drive from Rizhao to Qingdao Airport or Lianyungang Air Port.

Rizhao is blessed with its natural environment, long history, rich natural resources and honest people. It enjoys a favorable climate with an annual average precipitation of 813 mm and temperature of 12.6 degrees centigrade so that it become a famous city for vacation and tourism. Famous people such as Mr. Jiang Taigong, Mr. Ding Zhaozhong, the Nobel Prize winner were born in Rizhao. Beijing University, Qinghua University and other famous universities have research and development bases in the city .

With rich produce and advanced industries of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, Rizhao is the major producer of cereals, oil, fruit and animal products. Rizhao teems with wheat, corn, peanut, cotton, tobacco, fruit, silk cocoon and tea. the output of silk cocoon leads Shandong Province and the output of tea is the biggest both in Shandong and north of River Huai in China. Rizhao has abundant aquatic products. Haizhouwan fishing farm is one of the four biggest fishing farms in China. the fish here belong to 3 chasses, 43 families and 86 species. The rare marine products include prawn, scallop, hard clam, sea cucumber and abalone .Rizhao also has rich mineral resources. The major products include granite, marble serpentine, asbestos, yellow sand, gold, rutile, etc. The reserves of granite and marble are 11 billion cubic meters.
